President’s Welcome Message

President’s Welcome Message,
Welcome to the Society for Free Radical Research Europe (SFRR Europe) website. You have arrived at the right place if you are interested in redox signaling in biology and clinical sciences, or chemistry of reactive species. Mechanisms of redox biology are very important in many disciplines such as biochemistry, physiology, pathology, toxicology, clinical sciences and chemistry, and therefore the society promotes science in the field of redox biology or a field with a potential for cross-fertilization with redox biology.

SFRR Europe sponsors awards and prizes for outstanding senior investigators (SFRR Europe Basic Science Award, SFRR Europe Clinical Award) and young scientists who are not yet fully established (Catherine Pasquier Award) as well as promising young “stars” (SFRR Europe Young Investigator Awards). Special sessions for young investigators are also programmed at our annual scientific meetings. We interact with other international scientific societies and organizations as advocates for the development of our field and the interest of our members. The biennial SFRR Europe Free Radical Summer School in Spetses Greece is dedicated to provide state-of-art training for graduate students and postdoctoral young scientists in the field of redox biology.

SFRR Europe adopted “Free Radical Biology and Medicine” (FRBM) as the Society’s official journal. Moreover, together with the Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine (SFRBM) we have launched a new journal Redox Biology, an open access ‘sister journal’ to FRBM. Within a short period of time, Redox Biology has reached the landmark of publishing over 80 articles online, including some with the new style of ‘graphical review’.

The SFRR Europe intranet has been created; through this web site we will do our best to inform you about the meetings, conferences, summer schools and workshops relevant to redox biology, chemistry and medicine. The page is also the site where you can pay your membership fee; you can also select the optional electronic subscription to FRBM at a special price for members. The web site will also serve as a primary vehicle to publicize awards and job opportunities. Notices of Society elections will appear on this web site, and members will also be able to vote here with user name and password security.

As always, this is your Society so please feel free to use this web site (“Contact Us” button at top right side) to send your suggestions, ideas, comments and criticisms. As President of SFRR Europe, my goal is to serve all members of the Society with the best of my ability. Together with the other officers of SFRR Europe, we will do our best to make the Society stronger, more informative and more relevant to our members’ interest and careers.

A Happy and Healthy 2014,

Nesrin Kartal Özer
President, SFRR Europe
