Society for Free Radical Research - Europe

WELCOME MESSAGE

Dear SFRR-E members,

J.SastreOur last SFRR-E Annual Meeting held in Vienna, Austria in June 2023 was organized excellently by Prof. Florian Gruber together with the local organizers, particularly Dr. Brigitte Winklhofer-Roob and the Secretariat Conventive. We were delighted that our annual meeting attracted almost 300 participants. The meeting started with a friendly Meet-the-Professor-Session led by our Early Career Researcher (ECR) subcommittee. The high quality scientific programme included 5 Award Lectures, 5 Symposia with 15 invited speakers, 2 sunrise seminars, 2 satellite symposia, 44 oral communications and 127 posters. The social program included a very pleasant welcome reception at the Wiener Rathaus and a wonderful conference dinner held at the Palais Ferstel with outstanding Viennese musicians. We gratefully acknowledge the significant sponsorship provided by Elsevier and the Oxygen Club of California, as well as the additional sponsors of this meeting: Chanel, Tissuegnostics, Eucerin, Aposcience, Cayman, Baker, BMG Labtech, Shimadzu and the COST Action EpilipidNET CA19105.

The next 2024 Annual Meeting will be held on the 5th-7th June in the very nice city of Istanbul with the theme "From Molecules to Tissues: Redox Biology in Action" (https://www.redoxistanbul2024.com/), and will be organized by Dr. Emrah Eroglu with the valuable assistance of Prof. Nesrin Kartal-Özer. 24th January 2024 is the deadline for abstract submission & SFFR-E travel grant applications. This meeting will provide a great opportunity to address new exciting scientific challenges, with highly relevant updates on state-of-the-art research in the field.

We are also awaiting a very interesting series of SFRR-E webinars, organized by the ECR subcommittee, which is also very proactive in promoting additional activities, such as the mentoring program.

We would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2023 round of SFRR-E / Oxygen Club of California (OCC) Early Career Researcher (ECR) Fellowships: Sophie Hendrix, Hasselt University (Belgium); Verónica Miguel, Spanish National Centre for Cardiovascular Research; Anna Gioran, National Hellenic Research Foundation in Athens, Greece; and Pedro Gonzalez Menedez, University of Oviedo (Spain).

Our scientific society is beyond any political issue, and therefore restriction of attendance to our meetings by citizens from specific countries is contrary to the spirit, principles, and policy of the Society.

Finally, we do hope that the wars in Ukraine and Middle East will be over soon, to allow all people to live safe and peacefully.

Looking forward to seeing you in Istanbul in June 2024.

With best wishes for a healthy and fruitful New Year,
Juan Sastre
President SFRR-Europe
